Classroom Libraries
Exciting news! This school year Kenowa Hills ELA classrooms are getting a new addition! CLASSROOM LIBRARIES! The libraries will be coming after the start of the school year. However, our independent reading project will begin the first week of school.
Your 8th grader is expected to read for a minimum of 90 minutes per week. Some of that reading time will need to take place outside of class time.
I have attached some important details about the program below:

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND KEYS TO SUCCESS
How will I be graded?PERSONAL MASTERY / KHMS GRADING POLICY
GRADING: Homework will be viewed as practice and not count toward the students’ final grade. Final grades will be comprised of assessments only. In order to take an assessment students must complete the practice items first. *Students must pass 80% of the assessments at 70% or higher to move onto the next level. RETAKES: Retakes on assessments will be available provided the student has done work that is corrective in nature and has evidence* of that work. There is a maximum of 2 retakes on each assessment and the highest grade obtained will be counted. *As a class we will come up with a list of options to show this evidence for students to choose from. Will you accept late work and missing assignments? |
What are the Chromebook Rules?
What are our classroom rules? In addition to KHMS student handbook, here are two simple rules to live by in class (and life for that matter).
I've found that students who do these two things in class will be successful and enjoy the classroom experience. We will create a social contract this year to outline exactly how we would like to treat each other this school year. |
Absolutely! The trick is when your work comes in at a time other than a due date I need to know about it. Simply follow these steps to get credit!
RESUBMITS, MISSING and LATE WORK If you are turning in work at a time other than its original due date do the following: PAPER COPIES: Turn in to the “IN” basket. Fill in the log on the clipboard below the Turn “IN” basket. ELECTRONIC COPIES: Submit the item electronically the same way it was originally required to be turned in. Fill in the log on the clipboard below the Turn “IN” basket. ALL ITEMS ON THE LOG WILL BE GRADED ON THURSDAYS. |
